Duties/ Responsibilities

The professional nursing staff assesses plans and provides professional nursing care in a university ambulatory care center serving over 17,000 patients a year. The health center provides office-based acute care, triages urgent and emergent conditions, provides limited surgical procedures, women's health services, phlebotomy and a pharmacy.

Nursing staff is competent in various roles in order to efficiently process pertinent patient history and intake criteria in a fast-paced ambulatory care environment, communicates in an age-appropriate manner, proficient in the identification of emergent problems during patient assessment, implements emergency care per guidelines, skilled in using computer applications to make patient appointments, competent in telephone triage and knowledgeable of telephone medicine protocols for ambulatory care, proficient in phlebotomy and bench testing, implements emergency care, prepares for minor surgical procedures performed under local anesthesia, demonstrates sound judgment in decision making and executing the plan of care and documents in a timely manner adhering to regulatory standards.
For 9 weeks in the Summer this position is Leave Without Pay. May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

The Nurse 1 position must possess a current NYS license, current Infection Control and Basic Life Support certificates and five years of progressive nursing practice.
