Duties/ Responsibilities

Provide the oversight necessary to guarantee child care facilities regulated by the State of New York meet the requirements of State and Federal Regulations; inspection of day care facilities seeking licensing and certification, review of submitted documents for compliance, including investigation of complaints lodged against day care operators and the provision of training and technical assistance to clients.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

One year of permanent competitive State service as a Children and Family Services Specialist 1 MG or be eligible for a 70.1 transfer.
Provisional Qualifications: A Master's degree in Social Work (MSW); OR A Master's degree and one year of qualifying experience;* OR a Bachelor's degree and two years of qualifying experience.* In addition to meeting the above qualifications, you must have:
Either: one year of a close cultural association or work association requiring advocacy for or interaction with Native American, Asian, African-American or Hispanic public assistance recipients OR completed 24 semester credit hours in Native American, Asian, African-American or Hispanic studies. You MUST submit, with your application, a list of qualifying courses including course title, name of college or university, number of semester credits per course and date of course completion.
*Qualifying experience is defined as either: Professional experience providing services to children and their families either in: Inspecting foster care, day care, youth detention or domestic violence facilities or other providers of care, support and assistance to children, for certification and licensing purposes - OR Providing, supervising, monitoring or administering human services, juvenile justice or criminal justice services programs providing services for children, adults or their families, including but not limited to: providing social casework, case planning, case management, counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy on behalf of clients or direct investigation of potential abuse and neglect.

Additional Comments

Fingerprinting is required at the time of appointment, the fee is currently $86.50. In addition, screening through the New York State Register for Child Abuse and Maltreatment will also be required, the fee is currently $5.
