Duties/ Responsibilities

The Psychiatrist 2 position will be comprised of two half-time assignments: half-time as Director of the Bureau of Psychiatric Services and Research Institute Support and half-time as a Psychiatrist delivering clinical services in the Albany Medical Center Hospital Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic. As Bureau Director, the incumbent will have statewide responsibility for making decisions concerning programmatic and operational issues.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Manage the development, implementation and assessment of affiliation contracts between OMH teaching hospitals and their academic medical center affiliates.

Direct and oversee the psychiatric residency and fellowship program contracts administered by the Bureau.

Collaborate with Department Chairs of Psychiatry, Directors of Residency Training and OMH hospitals' Clinical Directors to ensure OMH supported programs are working to further the agency's mission.

Direct Bureau staff in the triage and delivery of the OMH Adult Clinical Consultation Service.

Provide consultation on selected patients, as directed by the Medical Director, and as requested by OMH hospitals and Field Offices and county mental health providers, in person or by video consultation.

Direct the development and delivery of Continuing Medical Education programs (CME) provided to OMH physicians, through the Statewide Grand Rounds program.

Devise new and innovative ways of expanding the reach and contributions of the OMH CME.

From time-to-time serve as Moderator of the Grand Rounds.

Oversee the Clinical Teaching Extra Service Program (CTESP). As directed by the Medical Director, develop and implement OMH policy directives in the areas of Psychiatrist staffing, training, recruitment and retention (including visa issues), and the professional milieu of OMH service sites.

Assist the Medical Director in his role overseeing the OMH Research Institutes (New York State Psychiatric Institute and Nathan Kline Institute).

Work collaboratively and creatively with facility Clinical Directors and other senior staff to provide expert technical assistance pertaining to the duties noted above.

Complete special projects as assigned by the Medical Director.

Provide direct clinical services to patients; collaborate with the interdisciplinary team; teach and supervise psychiatry residents, psychology interns, medical students, and other trainees at the Albany Medical Center Department of Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (half-time).


Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for the Psychiatrist 2, Grade 38, are possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State OR possession of a limited permit and licensure in another state or by written examination in Canada; AND certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; AND eligibility for full and unconditional participation in Medicaid and Medicare programs.
