Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems OR an associate's degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.
Substitution: Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience. Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as B.O.C.E.S, in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience. Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State driver's license required.
Duties Description Within 6 months of appointment you must obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License Class B as a condition of continued employment
Within 6 months of appointment you must obtain and maintain a NYS Heavy Duty, Light Duty Inspection License as a condition of continued employment
Perform journey-level work in one trade, and skilled, semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities vehicles and equipment. Provide guidance to others in the maintenance and repair of equipment. Additional duties listed below.
• Oil changes, replacing tires, repairing motorized equipment
• Metal working – use of various machines including band saw, belt sander, oxyacetylene torch, and welding equipment
• Service and repair small engines, chainsaws, leaf blowers, golf cars
• Operate and troubleshoot problems on bleachers in Broadview and PE
• Repairing snow removal equipment during snowstorms
• Use of typical mechanics tools and equipment – taps and dies, bolt extractors, sharpening mower blades
Tasks:
1. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on a variety of campus motorized equipment
2. Trouble shoot malfunctions on various motorized equipment
3. Welding and fabricating broken frames, body panels and snowplows
4. Perform seasonal preparation of grounds equipment
5. Work overtime during weather events and or campus events in support of facilities operations
6. Work at height installing banners when requested – operate man lifts, properly secure banners, and follow safety procedures.
7. Operate and maintain bleachers at Broadview and PE – extend and retract when requested. Perform maintenance and trouble shoot problems when they arise.
