Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications High School diploma and two years of experience in the design, repair, maintenance, operation, and calibration of sophisticated electrical and electronics equipment for scientific research or experiments for educational purposes.
Duties Description The Laboratory Equipment Designer (Electronics) assigned to the Ambient Air Monitoring Quality Assurance (QA) Lab at SUNY-East Campus will maintain field calibrators used in the NYS Air Monitoring Network and will be responsible for:
• Performing certifications (comparisons against designated standards) on various air monitoring calibrators (SO2, CO, NO-NOx & O3) in the Ambient Standards Lab on a continuous rotating schedule.
• Performing annual certifications of portable audit equipment used by monitoring site operators to measure volumetric flow, temperature, pressure and other parameters.
• Maintain standards used to verify field instrumentation and portable audit devices on a current basis.
• Monitoring, troubleshooting and repairing air monitoring calibrators and analyzers presently in use in the Lab.
• Conducting periodic quality assurance audits on various air monitoring equipment (including meteorological instrumentation, continuous criteria pollutant ambient air monitors, particulate monitors (both discrete (FRM) and continuous (TEOM)) and zero air systems at air monitoring sites across the state.
• Designing, constructing, troubleshooting and repairing air monitoring calibration equipment, both continuous and manual, in a laboratory setting.
• Generating written reports documenting the performance audits and instrument certifications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Able to evaluate, modify, design, fabricate, operate, and maintain various electromechanical devices and equipment
• Capable of handling the standard tools of electricians
• Must have excellent technical skills
• Capable of loading and unloading vehicles
• Able to operate a computer and possess knowledge of required technical computer programs
• Able to write correspondence and reports in a coherent, organized manner
• Must have good communication skills
• Able to lift and carry heavy equipment
• Comfortable in the use of ladders and scaffolding
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
