Minimum Qualifications One year of trade experience after the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Carpenter, Construction Equipment Mechanic, Electrician, Electronic Equipment Mechanic, General Mechanic, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Locksmith, Machinist, Mason and Plasterer, Motor Equipment Mechanic, Painter, Plumber and Steamfitter, Refrigeration Mechanic, Roofer and Tinsmith, or Welder.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate should be familiar with the specialized needs of a health-related and/or laboratory facility. Candidate should be proficient with: general energy conservation methodology in a laboratory facility, specialized HVAC systems, and building management systems. Candidate should be familiar with systems necessary to provide laboratory services including, but not limited to: specialty gases, vacuum systems and water treatment systems, such as water softeners, chlorination systems, deionized water systems, and pH adjustment systems. Experience with arc flash and lockout-tagout procedures. Universal refrigeration certification is a plus.
Experience reviewing and interpreting job orders and blueprints, and meeting with shareholders to communicate plans effectively. Experience preparing sketches and plans to determine materials and labor requirements for projects as they pertain to power-plant and laboratory system construction and maintenance, as well as laboratory renovations. Experience with shift work and supervising multiple employees, as well as coordination of contract employees and employee training. Experience assigning staff to projects and providing instructions, specifications and plans. Experience with custodial, grounds, and fleet management. Experience with emergency response oversight. Experience with facility procurements, budget management, and participating in capital planning and improvement projects.

Duties Description The Maintenance Supervisor 1 will be responsible for project management from planning to execution stages, including reviewing and interpreting work orders and blueprints and specifications, meeting with stakeholders, overseeing budgets, and installing/removing lab equipment. Candidate will be responsible for overseeing preventive maintenance programs and coordinating emergency response efforts in case of plant system and/or utility provider failures, back-up power and generator systems. Responsible for preparing and maintaining written records of work performed and completed, as well as accounting for labor and material used. Candidate will provide supervision and oversight to journey level in-house and per diem trade staff, contract staff, and will be required to perform hands-on maintenance when needed. Responsible for scheduling, training and evaluating work performance of subordinate employees, as well as work performed by outside contractors to ensure conformance with project ecifications. Must coordinate with supervisors representing other trades involved in projects to coordinate and schedule work to be performed to ensure the effective utilization of staff, materials, and equipment and completion of the project on schedule. Candidate will be responsible for oversight of vehicle fleet, energy conservation, and inventory management. Responsible for overseeing custodial and grounds work. Responsible for mitigating health, safety and security risks.

Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Possible overtime required. Valid and unrestricted NYS motor vehicle driver’s license required. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, candidates who accept appointment may be required to wear personal protective equipment, undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluation, and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent re-assignment, background checks may also be required. May be required to obtain Department of Environmental Conservation certifications related to site-specific facility operation. Overtime may be required.
