Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description This position provides logistical and technical support for the big game (black bear, white-tailed deer and moose) management programs and game management section, with primary focus on black bear management. Limited opportunities for field work may arise contingent on program needs. Primary duties include:
• Compile harvest, biological, capture, and survey data
• Maintain databases & assist in preparation of summary tables and reports
• Collect bear harvest data from cooperating taxidermists and hunters
• Organize bear teeth for age analysis
• Assist with survey mailings and other forms of communication
• Assist with acquisition and distribution of field equipment
• Provide technical guidance to the public about wildlife management and conflict avoidance

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Applicants should have strong proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ArcGIS. A working knowledge of black bear and white-tailed deer ecology and previous wildlife work experience is preferred.

Seasonal, hourly appointment ending no later than 3/31/2019. Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to 3/31/2019. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements will be discussed at the interview.
