Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in the mechanical trades under a skilled journey-level worker which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Director, the incumbent will perform a variety of duties including but not limited to the following:

Will perform journey level work in the mechanical trades, automotive maintenance, and semi-skilled plumbing, and electrical tasks for maintenance and repairs at State Historic Sites using the normal tools of the trade. The incumbent will manage the maintenance department responsible for the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site, Knox’s Headquarters State Historic Site, and assist with maintenance needs at other State Historic Sites in the Palisades Region as needed. The incumbent will be responsible for the equipment and fleet inventory, complete small engine maintenance and repair, and regular automotive maintenance. The incumbent will be responsible for all building and grounds maintenance, including basic plumbing and electrical work. The incumbent will identify building and grounds needs, make estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects, order supplies as needed, and be responsible for overall coordination and execution of projects. The incumbent is expected to act independently with a minimum of direct supervision, and to be able to assign, supervise, review, train and evaluate the work of lower level employees. During winter months, the employee will assist in snow and ice control and operate snow removal equipment. The incumbent is also expected to assist in other areas of site operations as directed.

Additional Comments Operational Need: Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor tasks. Ability to supervise others. Ability to communicate effectively and to read and comprehend written material. Candidate must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License as a term and condition of employment. Candidate may be needed to respond to emergencies on weekends and holidays.
