Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT: Candidates must currently be a Senior Training Technician (Police), SG-18; or be reachable on the eligible list for this title; or have one year of permanent, competitive service in a title SG-16 or higher and be eligible for transfer under Civil Service Law. Candidates on the eligible list wil be canvassed and need not apply to this posting.
FOR PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT: You must have Either 1. a bachelor's degree AND three years of qualifying experience;* Or 2. an associate's degree AND five years of qualifying experience.*
* Qualifying experience is defined as police officer experience in a local or state law enforcement/criminal justice agency. You must have been responsible for the prevention or detection of crime and the enforcement of criminal laws. Investigative experience gained outside a law enforcement agency is NOT qualifying experience. If appointed provisionally, you must take the next examination for this title. In order to remain in this position, your exam score must be high enough to qualify you as one of the top three acceptors on the eligible list.
Duties Description The Accreditation Program allows for the accreditation of police organizations that meet 133 professional standards in the areas of administration, operations and training. Accreditation provides a mechanism whereby law enforcement agencies can be formally recognized for their excellence and professionalism in the field by meeting specific standards set by the governing body, the Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all Program activities are conducted according to program rules and regulations and established policies and procedures. This includes the review and approval of enrollment applications for participation; review of law enforcement agency policies and procedures to determine compliance with established standards; coordination of agency assessments which entails the selection of assessment teams, preparation of assessor packets and attendant documents, and the completion of associated administrative tasks; review of reports prepared by assessment teams; preparation of materials for quarterly Accreditation Council meetings, providing direction to agencies on achieving accreditation and maintaining accreditation status; conducting on-site reviews; and the delivery of training programs for participating agencies and assessors. The incumbent may be transferred within other OPS units as needs are identified by management.
