Minimum Qualifications - Current NYS employee, in-title as a Medical Specialist 1 or eligible for Civil Service transfer to Dentist 1
OR
Candidates must have: License to practice medicine in New York State. AND
possess an M.D., M.B.B.S.. or D.O. AND completion of training program approved by American Certifying Board of your specialty for entrance into its certifying examination. Candidate whose training programs do not meet the published standards of the Specialty Board will be required to present evidence of acceptance of their training by the Specialty Board. All OPWDD employees must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility.
Duties Description The Medical Specialist 1 will provide medical care and treatment to individuals with developmental disabilities in campus based and community based settings and will include: reviewing of medical history; conferring with referring physicians; participating in service plan meetings; physical examinations of individuals; conducts and/or orders diagnostic tests as needed; admininsters treatments , makes referrals as needed; conducts follow up exams and tests as needed. Will also coordinate and supervise treatment and care to individuals as assigned; supervise the medical care activities of nursing and direct care staff as assigned; order supplies and equipment for the program areas; periodically inspect facilities and recommend and implement improvements; develop and implement training program for staff.
