Minimum Qualifications Permanent appointment: Permanent service in this title or reachable on the appropriate Civil Service List; or one year of permanent competitive service in a title SG-21 or higher and otherwise eligible for transfer.

Provisional appointment: A bachelor's degree including nine (9) semester credit hours in statistics, economics, econometrics, or research methods and three years of subsequent professional research experience in the collection and evaluation of quantitative data directed toward review and analysis of program operations. Candidates must also have at least three years of research experience in the field of criminal justice (a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice may be substituted for one year or a master’s degree in criminal justice may be substituted for two years of this experience).

Duties Description The Program Research Specialist 3 (CJ) will be assigned to the Office of Justice Research and Performance. This position will conduct applied research on criminal justice populations and recidivism. Primary areas of focus include research and evaluation of Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) and other programs funded by DCJS. The incumbent may direct or supervise other staff.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have experience conducting analyses of data related to criminal justice populations, program performance, and/or risk and needs assessments; experience manipulating and matching large and complex datasets using SPSS or STATA; familiarity with relational databases; strong analytical, writing, and communication skills; ability to work well in team settings, as this position involves extensive interaction with DCJS colleagues and other agencies.
