Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must be currently reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming), SG-18, eligible list OR eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

Candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 16 or higher.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Information Technology Specialist 3 Database (Database Administration Specialist), the Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following activities:
• Work collaboratively with application development Data Cleansing staff by preparing database fixes for the date cleansing effort;
• Collaborate with NYSLRS’ selected implementation vendor in the implementation of and technical support of the database environments (including installation, modification, and maintenance) for the Retirement Benefit Administration System;
• Participate with NYSLRS’ selected implementation vendor in the implementation of and technical support of the database environments from ancillary products associated with the NYSLRS Project;
• Ensure that the Information Technology Specialist 3 Database (Database Administration Specialist) is made aware of emerging issues dealing with any of the database environments associated with the NYSLRS Project;
• Work cooperatively in the development, implementation, and maintenance of detailed technical designs, and procedures for data modeling, capacity planning, performance analysis, tuning, monitoring, change control, and database management in accordance with OSC’s existing systems standards as well as any other applicable standards;
• Participate in proactive monitoring, diagnosing, and correcting database problems (i.e. data corruption, contention, incorrect indexes, CPU utilization, etc);
• Participate with NYSLRS’ selected implementation vendor in the development of backup, recovery and contingency/disaster planning;
• Work cooperatively with NYSLRS’ selected implementation vendors for conversion planning to ensure that the database environment is designed, developed, installed and is performing in a manner adequate to meet the needs of the Retirement Benefit Administration System.
Additional Comments PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience maintaining SQL scripts and PL/SQL procedures
• Excellent technical documentation skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
