Minimum Qualifications Job Specifics
The New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) has embarked on a multi-year initiative, called the Redesign Project, that will require significant investment to redesign its business processes and legacy systems, replacing them with an integrated, customer focused, information system that facilitates its work.
When the Redesign Project is complete, NYSLRS will possess a modern information system, ready to meet the needs of its customers and stakeholders in a secure, flexible and stable environment.
PLEASE NOTE: Please read this posting in its entirety and follow the specific instructions on applying for this position.

• At least eight (8) years of general technical environment experience, at least one (1) year of which must be supervising in an IT environment,
• Experience must include the following, which may be concurrent:
o At least one (1) year of experience in performing server administration
o At least one (1) year of experience in management of server network architecture
o At least one (1) year of experience in capacity planning
o At least one (1) year of experience in performance analysis, troubleshooting, system tuning.

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the general experience.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Server Assistant Manager, the Server Supervisor will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
• Supervise CIO staff in its collaboration with Redesign selected implementation vendor in the implementation of and technical support for specialized system hardware, operating system environment, and software (including installation, modification and maintenance) for the new pension administration system and ensuring that the Server Assistant Manager is aware of any emerging issues.
• Supervise the coordination of the reviews of project deliverables as required.
• Identify risks as they arise and report to management.
• Supervise the identification, definition and remediation planning of the impact of business scope changes to the architecture.
• Assist staff in the definition and development of the work breakdown structures and project plans to support hardware activities.
• Supervise subordinate staff in its collaboration with Redesign selected implementation vendor in development, implementation, and maintenance of detailed technical designs, and procedures for storage management, capacity planning, performance analysis, system tuning, system accounting, change control, and system management in accordance with existing OSC’s systems standards as well as any other applicable standards.
• Supervise the diagnosis and correction of computer system problems (i.e. disk failures, memory leaks, network issues, etc.)
• Assist in the definition and development of the backup, recovery and contingency/disaster planning.
• Work cooperatively with Redesign’s selected implementation vendors for conversion planning, to ensure that the servers and operating system environment are designed, developed, installed and are performing in a manner adequate to meet business needs.
• Perform administrative and supervisory functions as required.
• Make assignments, set priorities, and prepare person-day estimates for project planning.
• Coach and assist less experienced staff in addressing technical (complex trouble-shooting and debugging activities) and functional issues that impact the project.
• Supervise subordinate staff in performing trouble-shooting and debugging activities.
• Supervise subordinate staff in performing post-implementation and maintenance activities, as well as activities related to future upgrades or enhancements to the Retirement Benefit Administration System.
• Assign staff to address project workload and reassign as needed.
• Define the timeframe and scope for task completion for subordinate staff.
