Minimum Qualifications Current employee of the Office of the Attorney General with permanent or contingent-permanent status as an Agency Services Representative or a current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent service as an Agency Services Representative or with one year of service in a qualified title, salary grade 7 or higher, and eligible to transfer to Agency Services Representative under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Duties Description Under the supervision of a Consumer Frauds Representative, the incumbent will answer a large number of incoming calls from the public. The incumbent will learn appropriate consumer laws, the bureau’s functions, and other entities’ functions as appropriate, and be able to explain them to consumers in a comprehensible and concise manner.
In addition, the following duties will be performed:
• Take phone messages for mediators, attorneys and staff.
Perform various miscellaneous tasks as assigned:
• Photocopy consumer complaints and other documents.
• Match new mail with existing files.
• Compile and organize pamphlets for consumer outreach programs.
• Periodically purge and pack away old files for archives.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including clerical duties.
Additional Comments This position is located within the Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection. Part of the Economic Justice Division, the Bureau prosecutes businesses and individuals engaged in fraudulent, misleading, deceptive or illegal trade practices. In addition to litigating, the Bureau mediates thousands of complaints each year from individual consumers.
