Duties Description Invasive Species Strike Team Specialists are expected to work as a team under the Invasive Species Strike Team Supervisor to preform daily field work activities. Specialists will be working as a crucial component of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) statewide Invasive Species Management Program. Strike teams preform surveys, manual removals, education and other activities as assigned on State Park lands. Projects are prioritized and vary from rare plant protection to larger scale partnership projects.
Strike teams will travel across assigned OPRHP Regions (See http://nysparks.com/regions/default.aspx for OPRHP regional information.), and will be expected to camp when necessary. There will be five Invasive Species Strike Teams statewide, all working independently towards the same Agency goals.
Duties:
Primary duties include manual removal of invasive species, field data collection and entry, surveying backcountry transects, post-removal monitoring and some park patron education. Field specialists are expected to be reliable and motivated with an interest in stewardship and natural resource management. Specialists must be able to perform physical work and hike in rough terrain in the outdoors in hot, rainy or otherwise unpleasant weather conditions. Overnight travel and camping trips will be necessary and occur on a regular basis.
