Minimum Qualifications 1. four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems. On your resume you must specify types of repair work performed and the kinds of vehicles on which you performed this work; OR
2. an associate's degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.
Substitution:
Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience.
1. Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as B.O.C.E.S., in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience.
2. Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience.
Experience limited to airplane (aviation) mechanic (except for ground equipment); gas station attendant; the repair of motorcycles, motor boats, or small engines; installation or repair of transmissions, mufflers, brakes, or tires; new car preparation; auto body repair
work; or management activities as the owner or supervisor of a repair shop or service station is NOT QUALIFYING.
Duties Description As directed, the Motor Equipment Mechanic performs skilled mechanical work in the diagnosis of the cause of breakdowns and of faulty mechanical and electrical performance of gas or diesel powered self propelled and non self propelled vehicles and equipment.
- Visually examines the equipment, reviews breakdown reports, and if appropriate, discusses the problem with the operator to determine the nature and extent of the damage and to get a description of the symptoms associated with the malfunction.
- Using appropriate test equipment and observation, diagnoses the cause of the faulty mechanical or electrical performance.
- Following technical manuals and experience, plans the work procedure required to make the repair and orders replacement parts and materials. After locating the trouble, makes repairs using mechanic's hand and power tools and test equipment on engines and components, including but not limited to the following:
- Repairs, maintains, and adjusts automotive electrical systems including such components as ignitions, switches, generators, voltage regulators, alternators, and starting motors.
- Repairs, maintains, adjusts elements of chassis assembly including such components as steering, front end, and hydraulic brakes.
- Maintains gasoline and/or diesel engines replacing or repairing such parts as but not limited to: valves, bearings, gears, shafts, pistons, rings, etc.
Additional Comments Position 1 will be filled asap through 3/31/15.
Position 2 will be filled asap through 11/15/14.
Ability to Lift 50 Lbs. Must be able to work unsupervised at times.
Ability to perform normal scheduled maintenance on 2 and 4 stroke gasoline outboard marine engines. Must be able to diagnose and repair other related components such as, ignition, wiring, lighting, fuel, cooling, steering and shift cables. Ability to service boat trailers including but not limited to: wheel bearings, brakes, lights, suspension systems.
Ability to repair small motorized equipment such as, weed eaters, lawn mowers, pumps, ATVs and generators. Experience installing electronics such as, Depth finders, VHF radios, sirens, speakers, and lighting etc.
Ability to complete paperwork as well as track parts in accordance with shop policy. May be required to make on site service calls for equipment repair and or transportation of equipment back to the repair facility.
