Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a master’s degree or higher and 3 years of relevant professional experience in the P-16 education field. This includes experience as a teacher-leader; master teacher; P-12 instructional leader; human capital manager engaged in professional skill/competency development or career/learning planning of teachers and principals; teacher education instructor or administrator; school leader education instructor or administrator; professional developer; researcher; policy developer/analyst; policy advocate, or in an oversight or regulatory role. One year of full–time classroom teaching experience may be counted toward the 3 year experience requirement.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity/experience with the Regents Reform Agenda. Track record of working with diverse stakeholders to implement educator effectiveness policies/programs leading to improved student outcomes. Proven project management skills. Experience playing a key role on teams meeting ambitious performance targets. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with critical deadlines. Willing to hold oneself personally accountable for results in a rapidly changing government context.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking applicants for the position of Project Assistant in the Office of Teacher and Leader Effectiveness. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Soliciting and synthesizing input from stakeholders, such as higher education institutions, local education agencies, school administrator unions, and other professional associations, regarding the implementation of teacher and school leader effectiveness initiatives;
• Developing and delivering technical assistance materials, training, resources, and responses to questions regarding teacher and school leader effectiveness initiatives;
• Assisting in the planning, conducting, and reporting on monitoring of districts, BOCES, and/or public charter schools that are implementing teacher and principal effectiveness programs;
• Assisting in the coordination of the process for reviewing applications/proposals and managing contracts/awards for various office initiatives and/or grant activities;
• Preparing and submitting reports required by the Board of Regents, Governor, Legislature, U.S. Department of Education, etc.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a temporary appointment.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $81,415 based on annual performance advances.
