Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four years of museum production experience in exhibit fabrication, art handling and object preparation. A maximum of two years of appropriate training may be substituted for the work experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred candidates will be able to carry out the required duties including the use of all necessary equipment and tools (lifts, ladders, etc.)
**Leads to a maximum salary of $56,567 based on annual performance advances.
Duties Description Under the general supervision of a Museum Exhibit Specialist 2, the Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Preparation/Fabrication) will provide exhibit construction and installation, object mounting and art handling, and assist with the transport of exhibits and exhibit components. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
?Builds and installs exhibit architecture and elements, such as cases and bases; mounts, including plexiglas display holders; and architectural elements, including walls, free standing buffers and drop ceilings. Produces specialized exhibit elements as designed, and paints and/or finishes galleries, furniture, exhibit components and spaces as required.
?Provides art and artifact handling for internal and external museum objects; prepares objects, specimens, art and artifacts for exhibition; and mats and frames works on paper, photographs and specimens.
?Installs exhibit graphics for exhibitions and programs, such as vinyl cuttings, printed graphics and other signs.
?Works with Museum Exhibit Designers, exhibit support staff, and audiovisual staff to install changing exhibitions, and maintain existing exhibits in the Museum galleries by rebuilding, repairing or rematting worn or broken exhibit components.
?Assists in the transport and uncrating of works of art received for temporary exhibition. Transports works of art within the museum observing security precautions, and uses established and approved fine art and artifact handling techniques.
?Fabricates and packs shipping containers to house traveling exhibits, artifacts and specimens for movement locally and around the country; participates in the preparation of exhibits for installation or travel; and assists in moving crates and cases to and from secure storage within the museum as well as on and off trucks.
?Work schedule includes weekend and evening coverage on a rotational basis.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment.
