Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in the Education field; AND NYS certification as a school administrator (SAS or SDA).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
1. Experience working with deaf students.
2. Ability to communicate through ASL/Sign Language.
3. NYS certification in Special Education/Teacher of the Deaf.
4. Experience supervising staff in an education setting.
5. Experience implementing the Common Core Learning Standards.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Deaf is seeking an Assistant Superintendent for Program Services. Under the direction of the Superintendent, duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assume responsibilities of Superintendent in his/her absence;
• Supervise all staff in the area of pupil personnel and related services;
• Supervise the department heads for curriculum and instruction and the residential program;
• Serve as chairman of the committee on special education;
• Coordinate the Career Preparation and Development program;
• Supervise after school programs including instructional and extra-curricular activities;
• Assist superintendent in labor relation matters;
• Oversee personnel providing instruction and support to students in career program;
• Establish procedures and protocols to ensure compliance in relation to the Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Commencement Credential.
• Oversee and coordinate Technology program;
• Collaborate with the Department Head and instructional staff to develop a technology plan including curriculum, instruction, and replacement schedules;
• Collaborate with Leadership Team to ensure compliance with regulations and expectation of the State Education Department;
• Assume oversight responsibility of the Department Head in providing instructional leadership and evaluation of staff;
• Coordinate and supervise the members of the Multiple Disciplinary Team (MDT);
• Supervise the MDT Team to ensure all student IEPs are in compliance and followed by instructional staff; and
• Work collaboratively with CSE (Chairpersons of Special Education) from home schools to ensure compliance and expectations of students and programs.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment.

* Leads to a maximum salary of $79,003 based on annual performance advances.
