Minimum Qualifications Open to qualified employees of New York State
Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for the title;

OR

Candidates must have one year of permanent service in a title eligible for transfer under § 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Candidates who have not previously served in a keyboarding title must demonstrate adequate keyboarding skills (i.e. the ability to type 35 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy) by passing the Keyboard Specialist performance test.

Duties Description As a Keyboard Specialist 2, you would either be a working supervisor of a group of Keyboard Specialist 1s or perform difficult and complex clerical processing and records maintenance activities requiring skilled use of keyboarding and information processing equipment and systems. As a supervisor, you would assign work to subordinates, review completed work for neatness and accuracy, train new employees, and maintain desired standards of production. In a non-supervisory position, you would perform complicated clerical processing and records maintenance activities using word processing packages, spreadsheets, data base programs, and desktop publishing software. You would design clerical processing procedures, set up and maintain the records for a program, and schedule and coordinate administrative procedures. You may be required to work independently or with minimal supervision.

Background Investigation Requirements
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR will be barred from appointment.
