Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have a license to practice medicine in New York State. You must also be fully eligible for full, unconditional participation in the medicare and medicaid programs. In addition, you must have a M.D., M.B.B.S., or D.O. Degree and have completed one year post-graduate training acceptable to the liaison committee on graduate medical education of the American Medical Association and have 2 years subsequent medical experience.
Duties Description Serve as clinical practitioner on an advanced level, provide medical leadership or serve as director of specific programs. You may be in charge of a small medical-surgical service or part of a large service or specialize in an area in which there are no specialty boards, such as geriatrics, mental retardation, or drug use. If in charge of a service, you would administer and actively participate in the general medical care of the patients for whom you are responsible, assigning patients to subordinates, confering with them on diagnosis and treatment programs. You would also participate in planning, developing and improving delivery systems and establish relationships with other providers and facilities. As a specialist, you would be consulted on medical treatment for specific types of patients presenting unusual medical problems. You might be assigned responsibilities for reviewing medical care of patients.
