Salary RangeFrom $87891 to $107946 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year of permanent competitive or non-competitive 55 b/c service as an Associate Attorney or be in a title deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law and must be admitted to the New York State Bar.
Duties Description Under direction of the General Counsel and reporting directly to the Deputy Counsel, the Associate Attorney’s job duties include, but are not limited to providing supervisory review, support, and training to Senior Attorneys in the Office of Counsel; collaborating on issues relating to state and federal legislation; providing assistance with all aspects of hearing preparation (witness preparation, opening and closing statements, cross-examination, pre-hearing conferences, attending administrative hearings, making relevant objections, familiarity with the rules of evidence, etc.); providing assistance and support to the OMIG staff on the more complex issues relating to significant cases, cases of first impression, policy interpretation and/or analysis, appeals of immediately excluded providers, and support for audit and investigation staff including administrative hearing case preparation and presentation; assisting with all aspects of litigation (acceptance of services, review of petition/complaint, preparation of affidavits and memoranda of law, legal research, motion practices, etc.); researching and analyzing intricate and/or novel issues and legal matters; and general case and project management.
Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory experience; extensive litigation experience (either administrative or in court); experience and/or knowledge of Medicaid or health insurance law; excellent analytical and writing skills. Applicant should be self-motivated, organized, efficient, and possess good inter-personal skills.
