Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades-worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course. Must be able to traverse rough terrain, work in remote locations, work in and around water. Must have and maintain a valid NYS Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades to which assigned.
Working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations for the trade or trades to which assigned. Ability to read plans, specifications, manuals and blueprints.

Duties Description Maintenance Assistants perform routine, repetitive maintenance, installation and repair tasks in one or a combination of the mechanical, building construction, motor equipment and electrical trades. Incumbents may also perform journey-level activities, under supervision or after receiving detailed instructions, to learn and perfect their skills. Operate heavy equipment, such as trucks, tractors, front end loaders, etc. Operate light self-propelled equipment, such as power mowers, chain saws, power saws, etc. Perform a variety of tasks utilizing power and manual hand tools, including but not limited to saws, hammers, drills, sanders, etc. Ability to perform a variety of construction trades, including but not limited to masonry, carpentry and electrical. Must be willing and able to do manual work in the park, such as but not limited to lifting trash cans chest high, using rakes and shovels, operate push lawnmowers, leaf blowers, grass trimmers and O turn mower. Must be able to perform repairs in electrical, plumbing, carpentry and equipment. Must be willing and able to supervise employees ensuring staff understand and carry out duties in a timely manner with consideration to the safety of all employees. Must be able to drive to other DEC locations to perform duties when needed. You will be required to climb ladders and work at heights and scaffold and platforms. You may be required to supervise others.

Additional Comments Must complete chain saw certification course, including First Aid, CPR.

Work schedule, hours and duration of position will be discussed at interview. Must have and maintain a NYS driver's license.
