Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
The candidate should be capable of lifting 70 lbs and possess a valid NYS Driver’s License. They must be able negotiate difficult terrain and work in adverse weather conditions.
Previous experience with fish identification, working on boats with fisheries sampling gear and data entry is preferred.
Duties Description The person filling this position will be living and working on the NYSDEC Research Vessel Seth Green for extended periods of time (up to 10 days) including some weekends and overtime. They will be assisting in six, approximately week-long surveys of fish communities using various gears including trawl and gill nets. Other activities during periods not on the RV Seth Green will include some lab and other field work as needed. Job includes travel per diem and may include overtime pay.
Additional Comments Housing will not be provided when not on the boat. Work hours can vary according to schedule and will be discussed at interview. Some nights and weekends required.
Seasonal, hourly appointment ending no later than 11/25/15. Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to 11/25/15.
Anticipated hourly rate will be $15.41 pending approval.
