Reachable for appointment from the Fire and Safety Representative Civil Service eligible list.

OR
Either 1. three years of full-time active service in a professional fire department or industrial fire brigade AND two years of experience as the person primarily responsible for fire prevention, fire inspection, or fire training programs;
Or 2. six years of active service in a volunteer fire department AND two years’ experience as the person primarily assigned and responsible for fire prevention, fire inspection, or fire training programs AND the successful completion of six fire safety courses offered by the State Office of Fire Prevention and Control or a verifiable equivalent. Five of the six must include: Firefighter 1 or Basic Firefighter (91); Intermediate Firefighter (92); Introduction to Code Enforcement Practices Part 1 (9A); Introduction to Code Enforcement Practices Part II (9B); and Inspection Procedures for Existing Structures (9C).
Important
If you qualify under option 2 you MUST submit a listing of the qualifying courses you have completed on your application. You may be asked to produce proof of satisfactory completion of coursework at the time of interview.
Substitution
An associate's degree (or higher level) degree in fire science, fire safety, or a closely related fire protection field may be substituted for one year of the general experience listed above.

Duties Description Duties
Provide fire safety field services to adult and child care facilities to ensure that these facilities are in compliance with applicable safety codes, regulations, and state and local requirements.

Conduct safety inspections, compile reports detailing findings and recommendations, and review evacuation plans to determine the facilities’ ability to respond to fire and other emergencies.

Establish working relationships with local safety authorities in inspection of facilities, investigation of fires and other areas involving dual jurisdiction.

Conduct safety awareness and regulatory requirement training.
