Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be reachable on the Archives and Records Management Specialist 2 eligible list OR must have one year of permanent competitive or non-competitive 55b/c service as an Archives and Records Management Specialist 2 OR have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-16 or above in a title deemed eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. In addition, candidates must possess the qualifications listed below.

If there are three or fewer qualified candidates in the promotion field, a permanent appointment may be made via non-competitive promotion pursuant to § 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. To qualify for non-competitive promotion, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service as an Archives and Records Management Specialist 1.

Duties Description The New York State Archives is seeking to fill an Archives & Records Management Specialist 2 (ARMS 2) to serve in the Archival Services Unit. Under the direction of the Archives Conservation Specialist 3, the incumbent of this position will participate in the creation of digital content for online delivery and the preservation of born-digital media and digital surrogates. The incumbent will also supervise the quality control of digital images as well as their corresponding metadata to ensure the researcher’s ability to discover, search, and browse digital content. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Identify records to digitize in order to expand access to them. In consultation with other staff, define, confirm, and apply criteria for digitization;
• Supervise the creation of digital content for online delivery, including surrogates of still and moving images;
• Implement quality control processes relative to creation of digital images and corresponding metadata;
• Participate in the preservation processes on born digital collections, including text files, still and moving images, audio files, databases, websites, and GIS systems;
• Participate in the delivery of services to on-site researchers and in responding to researcher inquiries via email;
• Supervise staff assigned in the creation of digital images and/or metadata as well as other tasks as assigned. As supervisor; plan projects, monitor work in progress, evaluate final products, and document staff effort and collection status and needs;

• Coordinate cross-unit project planning and communication as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $66,494 based on annual performance advances.
