Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Systems Programming); G-23; OR in a position at G-21 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law; OR in a position approved for transfer under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge and experience with servers running AIX 6.1/7.1 utilizing SAN storage in an N-Tier network environment. Familiarity with virtualization technology, micro partitioning and multipathing. Good documentation skills and understanding of ITIL processes are also desired.
Duties Description Within Data Center Hosting of the Chief Operations Office, the Information Technology Specialist 3 (Systems Programming) will be responsible for performing complex technical activities to support the building, installation, and configuration of AIX servers and the software that runs on them, while providing timely reporting to management as to the status and health of the AIX systems and software. Servers are hosted for state government customers in multiple 24x7 Data Centers. There is a requirement to routinely interact with customers and work in project groups on large highly visible projects. At times there may be a requirement to be the primary single point of contact with customers, other support teams, and vendors. Off-hours 24x7 support is required. ServiceNow IT Service Management is used for incident management, change management, and service catalog management.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Install, configure, administer, and support of AIX Enterprise virtual and physical servers utilizing the following SAN environment: IBM 8000 Series Storage virtualized by SVC and EMC VNX/VMAX storage virtualized by VPLEX. NFS disk is supplied through EMC Isilon. AIX Servers use multipathing drivers including SDDPCM, PowerPath, and Native MPIO.
• Provide AIX administration for servers using enterprise components such as PowerHA, PowerVM, GPFS, CommVault and Splunk.
• Create and maintain user access permissions. Maintain server configuration information within the CMDB database.
• Perform problem resolution, debugging, and monitoring using tools such as sar, nmon, LPAR2RRD, netstat, Wireshark, Tivoli and syslog. Perform shell scripting
• Document technical procedures and report the status and health of AIX systems and complete periodic capacity and performance planning.
• Lead teams to perform these Enterprise AIX duties as required.
Additional Comments Required travel will be between New York State data centers and the employee’s primary workstation location. Work hours will be discussed at the time of interview. Some positions may require fingerprinting.
