Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming), G-18, OR in a position at the G-16 level or higher deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades.
Preferred Experience
• Experience developing applications using Web development tools, including HTML, JavaScript and Java,
• Experience creating and/or modifying relational database structures for Oracle RDBMS,
• Experience using PL/SQL,
• Experience working in a Unix environment, including developing Korn shell scripts,
• Strong communication and writing skills.
Duties Description The Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) will work with a team responsible for user requirements definition, functional and technical design specifications, software development and testing, and documentation for new enterprise applications or enhancements to applications used by various program units within the Disabilities and Aging Cluster.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Perform coding, testing and debugging activities in accordance with design specifications, agency standards and test plans,
• Perform software maintenance activities, including remediation, software upgrades and enhancements,
• Participate and assist in the development of high-level conceptual design as well as detailed design specifications for new application systems or enhancements to existing applications,
• Prepare ad hoc reports in response to user needs,
• Diagnose and troubleshoot application software problems as they occur to minimize application downtime,
• Create and maintain user and system documentation,
• Interact with the Operations and Service Management areas to schedule and monitor production jobs and special executions.
