Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must be eligible to transfer under section 52.6 or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Candidates must have at least one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a qualifying title allocated to a grade 23 or higher. Qualified candidates must hold a Juris Doctorate degree and be admitted to the Bar to practice in New York State.
Duties Description Incumbent will be a Senior Attorney in the Office of General Counsel assigned to the Litigation Division. The Senior Attorney will be primarily responsible for overseeing, prosecuting and defending litigation matters commenced by and against the Board including matters related to group self-insured trusts and other complex litigation matters; perform legal research in support of the Board’s legal position on various topics related to the Board’s pending litigation; respond to inquiries made by litigation stakeholders; and perform special legal projects as requested. The Senior Attorney will be required to work both independently and with the New York State Attorney General’s Office (where appropriate) to prepare motion papers, discovery demands and responses, pleading and other legal papers in connection with lawsuits commenced by and against the Board. The Senior attorney will also be required to conduct and become familiar with e-discovery and the attendant protocols. Finally, the Senior Attorney will be cross-trained to understand application for administrative review and Full Board Review so that the successful candidate can prepare proposed memorandum decisions and supporting materials concerning such applications.
