Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher AND a valid New York State teaching certificate in Speech And Hearing Handicapped or Speech And Language Disabilities OR be eligible to obtain a New York State teaching certification in Speech And Hearing Handicapped or Speech And Language Disabilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
a. Command of the English language exhibiting the ability to verbally communicate, read, and interpret general education periodicals & professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations;
b. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group settings to parents, students, and other employees of the organization;
c. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; and
d. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Blind is seeking applicants to fill an Instructor (Speech) position for a six-week Summer School program. Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Conduct testing and evaluations to determine eligibility for speech-language services;
• Assist trans-disciplinary team in development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs);
• Schedule and deliver speech-language services as mandated in IEPs;
• Complete Medicaid-compliant session notes and any related paperwork to comply with all federal, state, and local mandates;
• Establish and monitor data collection;
• Assure communication between Home, Residential, Health Center, and School across all aspects of service delivery;
• Assist in development and implementation of behavior plans for applicable students; and
• Adhere to Behavioral and Health and Safety Standards as defined in the employee handbook.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. This will be a temporary, hourly position.
