Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2, G-18 OR in a position at the G-16 level or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law OR in a title approved for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two grades.Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2, G-18; OR who are in a position at the G-16 level or above and deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law; OR who are in a title designated appropriate for Section 70.1 transfer under Civil Service Law, such as Supervising Computer Operator, G-18. Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in supporting a LAN/WAN environment
• Experience in supporting a TCP/IP based network environment
• Experience with CISCO Firewalls
• Experience with Cisco VOIP phones
• Experience providing direct customer support
Duties Description Within the Chief Operations Office/Network & Communications/Managed Networks, the Information Technology Specialist 2 is responsible for supporting the daily operation and maintenance of the statewide CISCO routing, switching, voice over IP (VOIP), and Video Teleconference (VTC) networks supporting the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Configure and install network devices and update existing devices as required.
• Troubleshoot problems locally and remotely.
• Review business requirements documents to ensure user needs are met and delivered on time.
• Assist in the troubleshooting of complex issues in a distributed WAN/LAN environment.
• Work with vendor technical support staff to investigate and resolve problems in required time frames.
• Develop and maintain system documentation, including detailed written technical procedures and reports.
Additional Comments Working outside of normal business hours and on-call may be required due to the 24x7x365 nature of our customer. Occasional travel may be required. Some positions may require fingerprinting.
