Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Programming) OR have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-21 or above eligible to transfer under §52.6 of the Civil Service Law OR be reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 3 (Programming) eligible list.
*Salary leads to $85,635 through annual performance advances.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking applicants for the position of Information Technology Specialist 3 (Programming). ITS is the service unit responsible for fulfilling the information processing needs of offices throughout NYSED. The incumbent of this position will work as a member of the application development team to design, as well as develop, new functionality for the EngageNY Portal project. EngageNY is NYSED's flagship curriculum and professional development resource site for New York educators, with tools for communication and collaboration. Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Lead Drupal design and PHP development efforts associated with the EngageNY project;
• Perform back-ups and recoveries of full Drupal environments;
• Demonstrate proficiency in PHP, SQL, MySQL, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, LDAP, XML, HTML5, Web standards and Web accessibility standards and AJAX;
• Serve as Drupal system administrator and implement custom Drupal modules and themes;
• Analyze and create technical solutions to solve new complex problems;
• Proactively troubleshoot reported technical problems;
• Review developer code and provide constructive technical guidance and mentorship to others, as well as handling constructive technical guidance;
• Develop supporting technical documentation and proactively maintain and update documentation;
• Ensure systems developed meet security standards and conform to security best practices;
• Demonstrate working knowledge of relational database systems and version control systems, such as SVN or Git; and
• Exhibit proficiency with software development project estimation/agreed tolerances, engineering tools and concepts.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval.
