Provisional: One year as a Mental Hygiene Staff Development Specialist 3.

Duties Description The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), Center for Human Resources Management, Bureau of Education and Workforce Development (BEWD), is recruiting to fill a Mental Hygiene Staff Development Specialist 4, Grade 23 position.

The incumbent will contribute to a wide range of initiatives designed to train and develop the OMH workforce so that employees may more safely and effectively provide services to recipients. Within BEWD as assigned, and in the capacity of team member and supervisor, the incumbent’s duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Apply knowledge of accepted adult learning and multi-disciplinary instructional methods, principles, and techniques to support BEWD training programs.
• Use oral and written communication skills to design, deliver, and evaluate staff training and development programs.
• Use administrative, organizational, supervisory, and project management skills.
• Supervise and mentor training and support staff.

In addition, to the duties described above, the incumbent will be developed as a Master Trainer for the OMH Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations (PMCS) and Partnering for Safety (PFS) training programs.

As a PMCS and PFS Master Trainer, the incumbent will be required to travel statewide to deliver PMCS and PFS train-the-trainer programs to State and non-State providers, and to observe, develop, and mentor PMCS and PFS instructors. In addition to the PMCS program, the incumbent will support several programs for inpatient and outpatient staff including Trauma-Informed Care, Recovery 101, Compassion Fatigue, and Interdisciplinary Treatment Team Training for the entire OMH workforce.

Additional Comments While part of OMH’s Central Office, BEWD is conveniently located on the grounds of the Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC), 75 New Scotland Avenue, Albany. Employees at this location enjoy on-site dining facilities, covered parking for a nominal monthly fee, and easy access from the New York State Thruway and other arterials. CDPC is within walking distance or a short drive to OMH’s Central Office at 44 Holland Avenue.
