Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list for the title;
OR
have one year of permanent service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Please note: Continued employment as an Infection Control Nurse is dependent upon maintenance of permanent licensure and registration. Loss of nursing licensure and/or current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State will result in action to remove you from the position.
You must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. If you receive an appointment, your continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility.
Duties Description As an Infection Control Nurse, you would have responsibility for an infection control and prevention program, ensuring its adherence to established infection control standards and policies, and developing education programs for patients and staff. You would serve in a liaison capacity between all departments and Infection Control Committees or hospital departments responsible for infection control and prevention services.
Infection Prevention Duties:
• Track infections and daily culture reports, prepare infection reports, develop and implement policies
• Provide orientation, training, and education programs to staff, patients, and contractors regarding Infection Prevention
• Report outbreaks of communicable diseases to health department, keep current on infections topics, attend committee meetings, and serve as Chair for Infection Prevention
• Perform construction risk assessments, track hand hygiene compliance, and perform Infection Prevention rounds monthly
• Input all infections into the statewide Infection Control Outbreak Administrator database and attend statewide meetings
• Prepare and present annual reports and next year plan and ensure Infection Prevention practices are compliant with NYS Department of Health and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations standards and guidelines
Employee Health Duties:
• Review new employee vaccination records, notify, track and input staff vaccinations into employee database
• Provide new employee orientation
Lab:
• Enter specimens into computer database for Nathan Kline Institute
• Label/Process/package specimens to Nathan Kline Institute and Arnot Ogden Medical Center
• Monitor STAT/Critical Lab results and chemical blood levels for clients taking certain prescription medications
• Monitor all aspects of glucometers (teaching/competencies/proficiency testing/Weekly quality control tests)
• Monitor lab results received and deliver results to the units in a timely manner for doctor signature
• Maintain/update Lab manual
• Maintain all certification for bedside testing (CLIA certification)
EMSS:
• Co-Chair quarterly Emergency Medical Services Systems (EMSS) meetings and maintain/update EMSS manual and complete debriefings
Monitor/Maintain:
• Code Blue Emergencies and Drills
• Medical Emergencies
• Crash Carts (making sure monthly in-services are completed)
• Defibrillators (including Pads and Batteries)
Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees may be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
