Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in correctional studies, counseling, criminal justice, psychology, social work, sociology, or vocational rehabilitation. In addition, you must have:
Two years of experience providing individual and/or group counseling in a recognized correctional, criminal justice, or community/human services program aimed at assisting clients with the resolution of major social, behavioral, and personal problems. Experience must have included responsibility for conducting counseling sessions designed to provide the participants with counseling for significant social and personal problems such as alcohol and drug abuse, mental, behavioral, and emotional problems.
Substitution: A master's degree in correctional studies, counseling, criminal justice, psychology, social work, sociology, or vocational rehabilitation may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Traineeship:Position will fill a two-year traineeship leading to Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator (Spanish Language), G-19. An appointee's performance in the trainee position and in prescribed training and development programs will be observed and evaluated.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for ORC (Spanish Language): you must also demonstrate your Spanish language proficiency at a level that will assure your ability to perform properly the duties of the position.
Duties Description Meets with assigned offenders to gather information about an offenders background, interests, and abilities. Provides the offender with information about the facility and its programs. Guides a group of offenders in identifying individual or group problems that may affect behavior and attitudes. May serve or act as a chairperson of one or more committees which may evaluate, classify and program offenders.
Additional Comments This is a provisional position, pending Civil Service examination, and being reachable on the exam to remain in the title. If appointed at the trainee 1 level, enter a two-year traineeship leading to the Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator (Spanish Speaking) SG-19.
