Minimum Qualifications Travel Requirements: As this position requires extensive travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

70.1 Transfer: You must be a Department of Labor employee to apply. You may be eligible for a section 70.1 transfer to the title of Safety and Health Inspector if you have one year of permanent competitive service as a Boiler Inspector, Public Work Wage Investigator or as a Labor Standards Investigator. You may be eligible for a Section 70.1 transfer to the Trainee level if you have one year of permanent competitive service as an Employment Counselor, Employment Services Representative, Labor Services Representative, Unemployment Insurance Investigator, or as an Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner.

70.4 Transfer: You must be a Department of Labor employee to apply Candidates who have one year of permanent, competitive service at salary grade 12 or higher for appointment to the Trainee level or salary grade 14 or higher for appointment to full title; meet the open competitive Safety and Health Inspector/Trainee minimum qualifications and have taken and passed the Safety and Health Inspector/Trainee examination may be considered for 70.4 transfer.

Duties Description Standard Duties: As a Safety and Health Inspector, you would plan, schedule and conduct safety and health inspections of selected work sites such as state, county, city and town office buildings, hospitals, correctional facilities and sewage treatment plants. Such worksites may include asbestos abatement projects. These inspections are made in order to assure conformance with established standards, identifying unsafe conditions and work practices, and to protect workers and the public.
