Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson or completion of an appropriate two year technical school course.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Assistant at this location performs a variety of semiskilled maintenance and repair work as assigned in the motor equipment trade including the following:
Assists in the maintenance and repair of automotive, diesel, heavy equipment and small-engine equipment.
Routine tasks in the repair, maintenance and servicing of automotive equipment. Typical duties may include the removal and replacement of brakes, wheel bearings, starters, fuel pumps, water pumps, gas tanks, carburetors, exhaust system components, shock absorbers, springs and radiators.
Minor engine repairs as well as tune-ups including the plugs, condensers, and sets ignition dwell and timing according to manufacturer’s specifications.
Use of various shop tools such as welders, torches, diagnostic computer systems, shop lifts, computers and tire changer/balancer.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
Applicant must possess or obtain within the probationary period a valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B as a term and condition of employment.
Applicant must possess or obtain within the probationary period a valid NYS DMV inspector certification for passenger vehicles and heavy truck as a term and condition of employment.
Must possess a working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used for making a variety of mechanical repairs on automotive, diesel, heavy and other motor driven equipment (small engines).
Applicant must also be able to effectively communicate orally with other staff.
