Minimum Qualifications Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as an Office Assistant (Keyboarding) (G6) OR a New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service in a title at Grade 5 or above and deemed eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.*

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate would have excellent secretarial, communication and organizational skills. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheets and Outlook. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.

Duties Description The incumbent will provide administrative support within the Bureau of Supplemental Food Programs (BSFP) for the Food Delivery and Vendor Management Section (FDVMS). BSFP administers the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and the Farmers Market Nutrition Program. FDVMS is responsible for all activities associated with vendor including: foods and formula, vendor contract management and banking functions. Duties include preparing documents using the PC environment and multiple software packages. This could include formatting and typing correspondence, reports, forms, charts, and other materials resulting in a final copy that is accurate, attractive, and grammatically correct. Performing routine tasks including filing, telephone coverage, logging and distributing mail, faxing, and photocopying. Setting priorities when assigned multiple tasks. Scheduling meetings; opening and distributing mail; managing incoming and outgoing correspondence; screening and referring telephone calls; responding to routine inquiries; formatting and producing finished documents using word processing; filing, faxing and photocopying. In addition, the incumbent will work together with other Bureau administrative professionals to ensure adequate coverage and support for BSFP activities.

Additional Comments Contingent-permanent, full-time. *Transfer candidates serving in certain designated titles will be required to take and pass a keyboarding examination to qualify for appointment.
