Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have a minimum of two (2) years practice experience and be admitted to the New York State bar. Attorneys in the Office must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States.
Suitable candidates must possess superior lawyering skills, including research, writing, and legal analysis. Trial experience is preferred. Some travel is required.
Duties Description The Office of the New York State Attorney General’s Litigation Bureau in Albany is seeking experienced attorneys capable of handling significant and complex litigation. The Litigation Bureau represents the State of New York and its agencies and officers in state and federal courts in proceedings relating to civil rights, education, social services, public employment, public health, law enforcement, corrections, state finance, insurance, taxation, and other litigated matters arising out of state operations and legislation. Cases in the Bureau frequently present questions of administrative law, federal and state constitutional law, and statutory interpretation. Attorneys handle all phases of litigation, including trials.
