Duties Description The Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry) will be assigned to the Anxiety Disorder Research Clinic - Division of Therapeutics. The Anxiety Disorder Research Clinic studies the diagnosis, pathophysiology and treatment of anxiety disorders. The mission of the clinic is to improve patient outcome by developing and studying new therapeutic strategies, elucidating the brain mechanisms, underlying their systems and disseminating evidence-based practices to clinicians and patients. Approximately 30-50 candidates per week come to the research clinic for evaluation and possible enrollment and treatment in the research being conducted.

As a Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry), within the Anxiety Disorder Research Clinic - Division of Therapeutics, you would interview and assess research candidates in order to develop both medical and psychiatric histories. You would be responsible for monitoring patient’s physical status, ordering necessary medical tests and assessing the results of these tests to determine if results are within normal limits. Based upon test results and available information, you would make an initial diagnosis and initiate any referrals as necessary. You would also be responsible for performing necessary psychiatric testing and evaluating the results to determine if the results are relevant to the research being conducted. For candidates who are accepted into the research programs, you would be responsible for developing and implementing plans of psychiatric care; developing health care plans for the research subjects; initiating the appropriate nursing care plan; referring research subjects for appropriate health care follow up; and monitoring the research subjects by conducting necessary assessments, reporting findings to others and modifying treatment or health care plans as necessary. You will also be responsible for supervising and training Research Assistants in the methods and protocols of the research project; assisting staff with assessment tools or questions regarding the assessment; and interacting with research subjects and their families.

If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.

4. Your degree or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. If your degree or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
