Minimum Qualifications The New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) has embarked on a multi-year initiative, called the Redesign Project, that will require significant investment to redesign its business processes and legacy systems, replacing them with an integrated, customer focused, information system that facilitates its work.
When the Redesign Project is complete, NYSLRS will possess a modern information system, ready to meet the needs of its customers and stakeholders in a secure, flexible and stable environment.

Minimum Qualifications
Interested candidates must currently be reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database) eligible list, OR be eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
52.6 Transfer:
Candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 21 or higher.
Duties Description Under the general direction of the Database Administration Supervisor, the Information Technology Specialist 3 Database (Database Administration Specialist) would be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
o Assist the incumbent Database administration staff in maintaining the current DB2 database that currently supports MEBEL until the Retirement Benefit Administration System is completely implemented;
o Assist application development Data Cleansing staff by properly executing database fixes for the data cleansing effort;
o Assist subordinate NYSLRS staff in its collaboration with NYSLRS’ selected implementation vendor in implementation of and technical support of the database environments (including data definition, installation, modification and maintenance) for the Retirement Benefit Administration System;
o Assist subordinate staff in the implementation of and technical support of the database environments from ancillary products associated with the NYSLRS Project;
o Ensure that the Database Administration Supervisor is made aware of emerging issues dealing with any of the database environments associated with the NYSLRS Project;
o Assist subordinate staff in development, implementation, and maintenance of detailed technical designs, and procedures for data modeling, capacity planning, performance analysis, tuning, monitoring, change control, and database management in accordance with OSC’s existing systems standards as well as any other applicable standards;
o Assist in proactive monitoring, diagnosing, and correcting database problems, i.e. data corruption, contention, incorrect indexes, CPU utilization, etc,;
o Assist subordinate staff in the development of backup, recovery and contingency/disaster planning;
o Work with program staff, IT staff users of the Retirement Benefit Administration System, other organizations at OSC, and external entities, to ensure that the database needs are addressed as implementation proceeds;
o Make assignments, set priorities, and prepare person-day estimates for project planning;
o Supervise subordinate Database Administration staff.
Additional Comments PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience installing, upgrading and supporting Oracle database software and the associated Oracle Technology stack in a multi-tier environment.
• Experience administering Oracle Database 11gR2, including:
o Oracle Data Guard
o RMAN
o OEM Grid Control
o Real Application Clusters (RAC)
o Oracle Partitioning
o Advanced Security Option
o Database Vault
o Advanced Compression
o Various Oracle management packs (candidate should specify management pack in which they are experience).
• Experience maintaining Unix scripts, SQL scripts and PL/SQL procedures.
• Knowledge and experience with Oracle database administration in a PeopleSoft environment.
• Knowledge and experience with performance testing a complex, multi-tiered system.
• Knowledge and experience with performance tuning; recognizing root cause and recommending workable solutions.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
