Minimum Qualifications This is a transfer opportunity for a current NYS employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Security Services Assistant 1.
Duties Description As a Security Services Assistant 1, appointee will enforce building regulations; maintain order and direct visitors in State facilities; provide foot/vehicular patrols of facilities and their environs; control access to buildings and offices; assist the sick, injured, or persons with disabilities; submit accident, incident, and daily activity reports; and secure windows and doors. Appointee will also maintain a roster of persons entering or leaving the buildings during prescribed hours, monitor and maintain building access and security equipment, examine building exteriors for vandalism or intruders, report building deficiencies, inspect and service firefighting equipment, assist in building evacuation, and notify the police when appropriate. Appointee will be required to accept mail/large packages delivered by courier and must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time and be able to climb stairs. Appointee may be required to work various shifts, as well as unscheduled overtime when necessary. Appointee will be required to drive a motor vehicle and must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter. Appointee must be currently registered as a Security Guard by the New York State Department of State.
• Answer main phone line and direct call to proper State Preparedness Training Center (SPTC) staff member.
• Enforce access control policies and procedures.
• Enforce student/visitor procedures.
• Control access to buildings and offices.
• Maintain key log and key boxes.
• Assist the sick, injured, or persons with disabilities – call ambulance if needed.
• Submit incident reports if needed.
• Patrols/rounds of all buildings and whole facility, secure all interior and exterior doors to buildings, secure vehicles, secure all gates, arm alarms in all SPTC buildings at the end of the day.
• Always monitoring/checking for anything suspicious or out of the ordinary.
• Monitor security cameras at all SPTC gate entrances.
• Report building and perimeter fence deficiencies to supervisor.
• Respond to any alarms, investigate area and notify Police Department /Fire Department, proper SPTC personnel when necessary.
• Sign for deliveries and receive packages.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Additional Comments Operational Needs:
• Candidate must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New York State motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Candidate must possess and maintain a current New York State Security Guard Photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State.
Hours: Work hours are typically Monday-Friday 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., however nights, weekends and holidays may also be required to meet the operational needs of the SPTC.
