Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree in natural science (zoology, biology, geology), archaeology/anthropology, history, art or art history AND five years of professional experience at a museum or cultural institution displaying exhibits, such as an art gallery, zoo, botanical garden, educational center or historical society. Graduate studies in Museum Studies may be substituted for the work experience at the rate of 30 graduate credit hours equal to one year of the required experience.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $77,376 based on annual performance advances.
Duties Description The New York State Museum is seeking to fill an Associate Museum Exhibit Planner position. Under the supervision of the Director, Museum Exhibits, the Associate Museum Exhibit Planner will serve on a multi-faceted exhibit development team. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Responsible for overall management and coordination of exhibits;
• Work with Museum staff and external experts to organize exhibits, provide scheduling, coordination and correspondence for the exhibits division;
• Assist with the organization of exhibit teams and provide administrative support with exhibit coordination;
• Plan and design overall themes, messages, and interpretation of objects for exhibitions;
• Write and edit text that accompanies exhibits; and
• Write text that is used for Museum promotional publications, brochures, flyers, newsletters and other exhibit related literature.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a non-competitive appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.
