Minimum Qualifications Must have Bachelor’s degree in an art or design field such as art, drawing, painting, illustration, digital design or interactive media, OR an Associate’s Degree in an art or design field such as art, drawing, painting, illustration, digital design, or an interactive media AND two years of graphic design experience as described below:

Two (2) years of graphic design experience in conceptualizing, designing and creating graphics to communicate messages for educational, commercial or promotional purposes in print and electronic media.

Duties Description • Confers with project requesters, Retirement Communications staff and representatives from other bureaus/divisions and, if necessary, Retirement management, regarding project objectives, design features, target audience, due dates and format.
• Design & Artwork Development (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) - Uses professional design software to create print projects, web presentations and occasionally multimedia projects. Layouts combine graphic elements with text. Produces print jobs with the appropriate corresponding print method in mind. Develops style sheets and templates for use on print and web projects. Creates multimedia layouts with effective navigation and uses the most appropriate structure/architecture for the project as dictated by Agency Requirements. Creates original graphics using drawing and image manipulation software and/or electronic clipart.
• Web development & production (XHTML, CSS, DHTML, XML, etc.) - Creates web technologies for Intranet and Internet application. ADA compliance considerations are applied consistently.
• Creates Interactive/Dynamic, and Web tech development & production (Web 2.0, Flash, Flex, PHP, ColdFusion, etc.) - Creates interactive media rich applications to enrich user experience for our web (or other) audiences. ADA compliance and usability considerations are applied consistently.
• Upholds Approval Process - Provides drafts, as well as requested original materials and documentation, for all projects. Keeps supervisor abreast of developments, concerns, limitations and time constraints of projects.
• Assists in the digital photography production process, including using digital cameras and converting files for use in multi-purpose projects (e.g., web, PowerPoint presentations, print, etc.). Manages and names photographic files according to bureau filing procedures.
• Professional Peer Resource - Acts as professional resource and mentor to new graphic designers and introductory level graphic designers, including communicating concepts and technical information. Trains and acts as expert help to design staff on use of software applications.
• Software/Hardware Proficiencies - Maintains and/or develops above average-to-expert level of proficiency with software used to complete job duties.
• Professional Development - Understands that Multimedia and web are constantly evolving disciplines, and as a result, is proactive in his/her evolution as a designer/programmer. Keeps up with current trends and new technologies; maintains appropriate decision making skills required of Multimedia personnel.

Additional Comments NOTE: Mandatory overtime is minimal and project specific.

• Some knowledge of html, css, xml, JavaScript, PHP, ActionScript and ColdFusion and/or a willingness to learn these skill sets.
• The ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, and expertly use them in communications solutions.
