Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as a Manager Information Technology Services 1, G-27 OR in a position at the G-25 level or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second, consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two grades.

Duties Description This position will report to the Manager Information Technology Services 2 in Data Center Hosting within the Chief Operations Office. The incumbent will serve as the manager of the Distributed Enterprise Systems Management (DESM) team and will be responsible for its day to day management and operation. The DESM team is responsible for monitoring the health on all servers and server appliances in the consolidated data centers. To accomplish this task the DESM team is focusing on three tool sets, SPLUNK, Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and IBM Tivoli Monitoring. Output from these tool sets is used to notify server administrators, application owners and the ITS Enterprise Service Desk. The incumbent will be responsible for the day to day management of the DESM team of DCH.

Duties will include, but will not limited to, the following:
o Managing the workload of the DESM team and ensuring successful, timely completion of tasks.
o Ensuring that the monitoring environment is stable, available, and reliable and that monitoring solutions are designed, implemented, maintained, and operated to avoid outages and slowdowns through proactive monitoring and alerting where applicable.
o Meeting with customers and stakeholders to ensure that monitoring needs are documented and implemented.
o Assisting in the root cause determination/resolution by detecting problems, and routing notifications to the correct support team.
o Overseeing technical assistance and support to the DESM solutions customer community.
o Evaluating new technologies and developing plans to implement such where warranted.
o Performing the full range of supervisory duties.
