This is a transfer opportunity for a current State employee with one year permanent competitive or 55 b/c service as an Office Assistant 2.

One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a clerical, secretarial or keyboarding title, SG-7 or higher and meet transfer eligibility requirements.
Duties Description • Process clerical transactions for the NYS Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs following set procedures, rules and regulations. Use knowledge of program as the basis to make decisions and resolve problems.
• Maintain manual or automated records for the Agency.
• Gather, compile and prepare data from manual or automated files and other sources for various reports, publications, records, etc. Design formats for various reports and forms.
• Respond to questions from other units, agencies or the public concerning the operation of the unit or program area.
• Write responses to correspondence and reply to personal or telephone inquiries by providing required data, information or assistance.
• Review forms or applications for subject matter content, completion and accuracy. Gather additional information as necessary.
• Coordinate arrangements for meetings and courses, arranging for rooms, taking attendance and insuring that appropriate materials and equipment are available.
• Operate office equipment such as photocopiers, computers, printers, audiovisual equipment, etc., as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
• Answer phones and respond to or appropriately forward as necessary.
• May supervise lower level clerical staff.
• May be required to type correspondence, records and other material in final or draft form.
Additional Comments The Justice Center will help transform how New York State protects over one million New Yorkers under the care of jurisdiction of six state agencies. The following list outlines several of the Justice Center’s key responsibilities:
• Advocate on behalf of individuals with disabilities and provide oversight of quality of care.
• Operate a centralized, statewide 24-hour hotline and incident reporting system staffed by trained personnel.
• Operate a statewide register that contains the names of individuals found responsible for egregious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect.
• Centralize and perform functions relating to criminal history background checks.
• Investigate serious allegations of abuse and neglect.
• Analyze abuse patterns and trends in order to prevent future occurrences.
