Provisional appointment: You must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State. In addition, you must have one year of post-RN licensure nursing experience devoted exclusively to utilization review. Part-time utilization review experience will be prorated.
Duties Description As a Sr. Utilization Review Nurse, the incumbents will be assigned to the agency’s Forensic Medical Unit, and will manage inmate mortality and special medical investigations caseloads. Such investigations will involve the inspection of state and local correctional facilities, interviewing correctional facility security and health care staff, reviewing medical and mental health records, and preparing comprehensive field investigation reports. In addition, these positions will conduct inspections and evaluations of the health care plant, equipment, procedures and operations of state and local correctional facilities, including the preparation of comprehensive medical and mental health services evaluation reports, and the design of minimum health services professional staffing plans. The duties will also include managing a caseload of inmate health care and mental health care complaints, and grievances. A minimum of 40% travel is required, including overnight travel.
