Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent competitive service as ITS 3 (Data Comm), G-23, or in a position deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law or in a title designated appropriate for Section 70.1 transfer of the Civil Service Law. Duties Description Under the general supervision of an IT Specialist 4 (G-25), the incumbent of this position will work in the Open Servers and Storage group. The group is responsible for managing the department's VMware, Linux, and Solaris infrastructure. In addition, the team manages key infrastructure components including the department's SAN, backup & recovery, security gateway servers and DNS servers. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Manage, configure, support and performance tune SAN infrastructure, consisting of many terabytes of key agency data interconnected by enterprise class SAN switches. The SAN centrally houses data from the department's many Windows, Solaris, VMWare and Linux servers. The agency utilizes off-site replication as well as VMware SRM for disaster recovery.
• Work with vendors and other staff on troubleshooting both hardware and software, apply patches as needed or in clusters as part of routine maintenance. Supervise hardware replacement of faulty components with regard to availability and security.
• Work with the Database group to troubleshoot performance problems and recommend tuning settings and procedures. Provision machines (both physical and virtual) in a timely manner.
• Work with the Web Team to prevent web load based issues on our public and private web sites.
• Provision new equipment and services following already defined checklists and procedures in a timely manner. Create diagrams and documents for new or changed procedures.
• Collaborate on new services, recommend enterprise-class solutions backed by accepted industry standards and technologies.
• Participate in hardware and software upgrades, reallocation of resources and migration of data as required.
• Write scripts and programs as necessary to send alerts, automate routine tasks, provide better responsiveness and eliminate redundancy as necessary.
• Administration and support of the other Open Server and Storage Group's infrastructure components.
• Supervision of staff as needed.
