Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 OR have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-16 or above deemed eligible to transfer under §70.1 or §52.6 of the Civil Service Law AND either a Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, OR a Bachelor's or higher level related degree with eighteen credit hours in Computer Science OR a total of four years of experience in the following computer related areas: network, server, storage, and systems management; telecommunications; IT customer support and training; computer installation, diagnosis and repair; technical writing; computer security; knowledge management; database administration, design and management; internet/intranet development, design, and maintenance; information technology project management; design and development of geographic information systems or computer aided drafting applications; computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing OR be reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 2 eligible list.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $66,494 based on annual performance advances.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking applications for the position of Information Technology Specialist 2. ITS is the service unit responsible for fulfilling the information processing needs of offices throughout NYSED. The incumbent of this position will manage the Department’s ITS Application Control Unit and Computer Operations. Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Work with NYSED ITS programming staff to establish Unisys mainframe setup and check out procedures associated with jobs that run at the Office of Information Technology (OITS) data center;
• Supervise Application Control Unit staff that execute Unisys mainframe setup and check out procedures on a daily basis;
• Perform design and programming work associated with the use of numerous special forms which are output from Unisys mainframe jobs;
• Trouble-shoot various job setups and printed output which run on the Unisys mainframe at the OITS Data Center;
• Maintain documentation for the Application Control Unit which specifies all procedures and distribution of all output to NYSED Program Office customers and programming staff;
• Update and maintain NYSED’s Xerox procedures for the computer operations staff at the OITS data center;
• Operate, program and maintain the NCS Pearson Optical Scanner;
• Coordinate relationship with various vendors such as Xerox and NCS Pearson to ensure that hardware and software maintenance is sustained;
• Participate in Unisys mainframe planning activities with NYSED ITS managers and OITS data center management;
• Coordinate deployment of mobile devices (iPhones) and managing relationship with Verizon Wireless; and
• Oversee the physical security associated with NYSED’s data center.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment.
