Salary RangeFrom $49488 to $63001 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Candidate must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or eligible for 70.1 transfer.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
• Strong, written, analytical and interpersonal skills;
• Proficient in Lexis/Nexis, Excel and Access software and in internet searches;
• Preparation of legal forms, filing of court papers, assembly of evidentiary documentation and management of case files in complex/significant litigation.
Duties Description The Office of the Counsel provides legal guidance and services to the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) network on a myriad of issues arising from the delivery of supports and services to individuals with developmental disabilities. The position will provide paralegal support for the Deputy Counsel and staff attorneys of the OPWDD Litigations and Human Resources Bureau. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Assist attorneys in preparation for administrative hearings;
• Identify and assemble exhibits for hearings; and submissions;
• Maintain, organize and oversee litigation files;
• Track compliance with all due dates;
• Process and respond to document subpoenas and discovery demands;
• Assist with investigations;
• Track compliance with the internal and external complaint discrimination process;
• Schedule witnesses for deposition or preparation for testimony in Division of Human Rights cases;
• Provide support for Environmental Control Board matters, collections and small claims.
